Gaia is a term coined by James Lovelock in the 1960’s. He used the name of the Greek nature goddess Gaia to encapsulate the idea of the earth as a complex, interactive system. From this holistic view the earth is perceived as a living organism, that maintains it’s systems in a homeostasis to sustain life.
To ‘live’ Gaia then is to live in harmony with the earth and earth’s homeostasis.
It is obvious to most people who care to look, that humanity as a collective whole has moved more and more out of the natural balance of Gaia. It is now widely accepted that we teeter on the brink of human driven climate change so great it will drastically alter life on earth.
The questions now are not is it happening, but what do we do to reverse it.
There are no sweet easy answers. I believe the answers lie in human consciousness. A movement of consciousness has brought us to this place of disconnected self destruction. That consciousness clearly doesn’t have the answers. So the only solutions that will work and last are those that arise from a different consciousness, a consciousness of connectedness, unity, a holistic consciousness of Living Gaia.
LiveGaia is dedicated to natural living, in a holistic consciousness and sustainable way. The art of living Yoga - healthy body, mind, spirit & environment.

Homeostasis? Not sure about the “longevity” of this concept, but humans, at least, need a finite range of biological conditions in order to survive with some kind of “quality of life”. Pity, isn’t it that we have all the ingredients to continue Paradise, but are in grave danger of destroying it for human enjoyment. (make no mistake, the planet will continue to create life if /when we are gone). Mutually co-operative behaviour will save us, but having worked in community development for many years, the rise of the haves (ie personal power, resources, personality) always seems to rear its’ ugly head, not to mention traits like “laziness, anhomie, etc. I cannot feel optimistic at this stage that all humans can become co-operative,equal members of any new society. This is the most comprehensive challenge facing survivalists, doomers, co-ops, kabbutzes and love-ins.
